Shakti Smart Card Mandatory for Free Travel for Women: Guidelines Announced

The government on Monday issued an official notification to grant administrative approval to implement "Shakti Yojana" to provide free travel facility in buses of State Road Transport Corporations to all women passengers in the state.

The government has suggested that women should have 'Shakti Smart Cards' for free travel.

This scheme is applicable for intra-state travel only.

This scheme is not applicable for luxury buses such as Rajahansa, Non AC Sleeper and Vayuvajra, Airavata, Airavata Club Class, Airavata Gold Class, Ambari, Ambari Dream Class, Ambari Utsav, Fly Bus, EV Power Plus buses.

50% of the seats in road transport buses other than BMTC (except AC, luxury and inter-state buses) should be reserved for men.

It will be mandatory to have a 'Shakti Smart Card' if you want to travel. Get applications and get Shakti Smart Cards through Seva Sindhu Portal. Only intra-state travel is allowed in this scheme.

Under this scheme the expenses incurred by the four transport agencies will be borne by the government based on zero ticket/Shakti smart card data.

The Government has issued an order that till issuance of "Shakti Smart Card" ID cards issued by Government of India/Government of Karnataka Departments/Government owned offices with photograph and residential address shall be considered for issuance of zero tickets.
